JUST GUTS

Here is my most recent Guts piece. It has found a home with some old friends of mine and that makes me very happy. I have my own feelings on what this work means to me, but I love it when anyone takes something else from it. It is always my goal for my work to speak to the individual viewer without my own context. The truth is these Guts pieces have very specific meaning to me and when someone takes away their own personal feelings from them it reminds me that what I am doing is worthwhile. Thank you to everyone that has supported my work over the years! More to come! Acrylic and ink on canvas 15”x30”

MORE GUTS!

Here are a couple more pieces in the GUTS series. Look at the latest two and check out all of them down below! All done with acrylic and ink.

THE QUARANTZINE

This is a project my friend Jason King and I started talking about when this quarantine first hit. It took us some time but we got it done. This issue features myself, Derek Pratt and Eric Ackermann. Jason did all the printing and design. More to come and please feel free to submit. We are trying to showcase local artists in Santa Cruz, featuring new artists in each issue. Keep an eye out around town for them. They are up in several spots and are completely free. Front and back cover art by Derek Pratt. Make sure to follow on IG: @quarantzinesc Submit work to quarantzineSC@gmail.com

KEEPING BUSY

Here is all the work I have been doing during quarantine. Much of it is in response to the current state of this country. I’ll keep it simple. BLACK LIVES MATTER. FUCK TRUMP. And for fuck sake WEAR A FUCKING MASK AND VOTE.

GUT HEAD & BARF UP

Oh, hi there. I’ve been working on these two for a little while and I'm not gonna stop with the guts anytime soon. Take a look at Gut Head and Barf Up! All made with ink and acrylic on canvas.

Snake Pit

Oh hello! This will be the last Death Machine painting I do for a while. I don’t think I’m done, but I need to switch it up and work on something else for a bit. This one took a lot out of me, made my eyes bleed. Anyways, check it out! 16”x20” pen and ink.

IRON MAIDEN

Here is the latest installment in the Death Machine series. Pen and Ink, 16”x20”

THE RACK

Hello everyone. Here is another sick and twisted death machine that humans created. Torture is an element in all of these machines. It is especially apparent with the Rack. This disgusting relic was made with sole purpose of torturing people for a long period of time, resulting in death. See the gallery at the bottom to see all of the despicable devices in the series, so far. More to come. Up next, the Iron Maiden and the Snake Chamber. Yuck. Pen and ink. 16”x20”

DEATH MACHINE - ELECTRIC CHAIR

Hello. This is a new piece in the series I am currently working on. I’ve been illustrating, specifically man made death devices. It’s interesting to take the act of execution out of it and just draw the machines themselves. The things that we as a species have created for the sole purpose of killing other people is pretty disgusting. It’s important to remember that despite all of the amazing and beautiful things humans have created, we are more than capable of, and one could argue prone to, bringing the worst into this world. Anyways, check it out, more to come. Pen and ink. 16”x16”

OVERT SYMBOLISM

Hello! Here are a couple of pieces I’ve been working on. The subject of the work speaks for itself. I will say that the crow attacking a peace dove is based off of a real image. It happened recently. The pope released some peace doves and this ensued. Do yourself a favor and look it up, it’s one of my favorite things to happen all year! Both done with pen and ink. Without the frames they are 16”x20” and 12”x24” respectively. Hope you enjoy them!

STUDIO SHOOT

What’s up ding dongs? About a week ago my photographer friend came by to shoot some of my work in the studio. Here are the pics. The last three I added, just to show you guys a better look at the scale of the pieces. Check out Shereen’s website https://www.shereenphotography.com for more of her work! Thanks again Shereen!

The Other Side

Oh hello, didn’t see you there… Here are some photos of the latest series. Similar theme to the last one, they’re all about transformation and growth. All done on canvas with ink and acrylic. Enjoy!

From GUTERPILLARS to GUTSQUATCH, and Other Short Stories

Here is the entire GUTS series in the order they should be viewed. I painted them all out of order as I did not plan on this turning into a series, but I just couldn’t stop and eventually it became the story of GUTSQUATCH. I’m very happy with how it turned out. Putting up a set of the full pieces in order, followed below by some details, hope you enjoy it!

GUTSQUATCH!

This is the final piece in the series. I call him GUTSQUATCH and he’s super chill. You get the idea. 24”36” done with acrylic ink on canvas.

GUTERPILLARS and EARHOLE

Here are the next couple of pieces from this series. The final piece is gonna get pretty wacky. These are the beginning of the story. Both done on canvas with acrylic ink. GUTERPILLARS 12”x12” EARHOLE 14”18”

FACEGUTS

I decided to go back and do a piece to compliment “BARFGUTS.” I will most likely make another one, still figuring out what that would be. More as this story develops. Stay tuned for more… 24”x24” ink and acrylic on canvas.

BARFGUTS

Hi everyone! I finally finished this piece. It’s a bit of a throw back to a concept I started working with in college. As always, I like to keep the meaning open to interpretation. I will say that it represents an involuntary ejection of feelings. A reaction to existential crisis, if you will. 18”x36” ink and acrylic on canvas. Anyway, enough of the boring stuff, take a look!

ARMS AHHHH!

Finally got around to framing the rest of these.  LOOK AT IT!
